چکیده

bstract. The capacity of a printing system to accurately reproduce etails has an impact on the quality of printed images. The ability of system to reproduce details is captured in its modulation transfer unction (MTF). In the first part of this work, we compare three exsting methods to measure the MTF of a printing system. After a horough investigation, we select the method from Jang and Alleach and propose to modify it. We demonstrate that our proposed odification improves the measurement precision and the simplicity f implementation. Then we discuss the advantages and drawbacks f the different methods depending on the intended usage of the TF and why Jang and Allebach’s method best matches our needs. n the second part, we propose to improve the quality of printed mages by compensating for the MTF of the printing system. The TF is adaptively compensated in the Fourier domain, depending oth on frequency and local mean values. Results of a category udgment experiment show significant improvement as the printed TF-compensated images obtain the best scores. © 2010 SPIE and S&T. DOI: 10.1117/1.3272958

Compensation of printer MTFs

Preliminary experiments have shown that the quality of printed images depends on the capacity of the printing system to accurately reproduce details. We propose to improve the quality of printed images by compensating for the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) of the printing system. The MTF of the printing system is measured using the method proposed by Jang and Allebach, in which test pages c...

Compensating Printer Modulation Transfer Function in Spatial and Color Adaptive Rendering Workflows

A New Method for Time-Delay Compensation in Control Systems

In this paper a new method is introduced and investigated for removing the destabilizing effects of time-delay parameter in control loops. The concept of the method is taken from the knowledge concerning the dynamic behaviour of irrational transfer functions (Ir-TF), which is discussed and investigated elswhere in frequency response domain and is explained briefly here. Ir-TFs, which are we...

Analytical Investigation of Frequency Behavior in Tunnel Injection Quantum Dot VCSEL

The frequency behavior of the tunnel injection quantum dot vertical cavitysurface emitting laser (TIQD-VCSEL) is investigated by using an analyticalnumericalmethod on the modulation transfer function. The function is based on therate equations and is decomposed into components related to different energy levelsinside the quantum dot and injection well. In this way, the effect of the tunnelingpr...

Effect of Ink Spread and Opitcal Dot Gain on the MTF of Ink Jet Image

A new measurement method is proposed to separately measure the effect of ink spread and optical dot gain on the MTF (modulation transfer function) of printed images from an ink jet printer. The transmittance and reflectance of the same printed images are captured with two different illuminations: one on the printing surface (for measuring reflectance) and the other through the paper base surfac...
